About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Administrator to join our small but very busy payroll team supporting a large national security company.
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a fast-paced environment processing multiple high-volume weekly payrolls. With the business currently undergoing significant system implementation and transformation projects, accuracy and attention to detail are more important than ever. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring payrolls are processed correctly, reconciled accurately, and fully compliant with HMRC legislation.
This role would suit someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys problem-solving, and takes pride in delivering an accurate payroll service while providing excellent support to employees and managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Process multiple large-volume weekly payrolls accurately and within tight deadlines.
- Complete payroll balancing and reconciliation activities to ensure payroll accuracy.
- Perform manual payroll calculations confidently and accurately when required.
- Validate payroll data and investigate discrepancies.
- Ensure compliance with HMRC legislation and statutory payroll requirements.
- Calculate and process statutory payments including SSP.
- Monitor compliance with National Minimum Wage (NMW) regulations.
- Respond to payroll queries promptly and professionally via telephone and email, providing clear advice and resolving issues efficiently.
- Work closely with colleagues during ongoing payroll and HR system implementations.
- Support payroll audits and provide information as required.
- Assist with continuous improvement of payroll processes and controls.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience working in a payroll environment processing large-volume weekly payrolls.
- Strong understanding of payroll legislation and HMRC requirements.
- Good working knowledge of National Minimum Wage (NMW) regulations and Statutory Sick Pay (SSP).
- Confidence in completing manual payroll calculations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven experience balancing and reconciling payrolls.
- Confidence in handling payroll queries by phone and email, with excellent customer service and communication skills.
- The ability to explain payroll calculations and legislation clearly to employees and managers.
- The ability to work effectively under pressure and meet demanding payroll deadlines.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive and team-focused approach.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Excel skills to an intermediate level, including data analysis and reconciliation, vlookup, pivot table, standard formulas
- Experience using Sage 50 Payroll and Sage People Payroll
- Experience supporting payroll system implementations or migrations.
