Fullerton Group Launches ‘No Guard Alone’ to Tackle Male Suicide in Security Industry

1 October 2025

Frontline security officers protect venues, assets, and the public every day. But who is protecting them?

Fullerton Group is proud to launch No Guard Alone, a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to tackle male suicide in the UK security sector and ensure that no guard ever has to face their struggles alone.

Why We’re Taking Action

The reality is stark:

  • One in five people have considered suicide at some point in their lives
  • Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50 in the UK
  • Every day in England and Wales, 12 men die by suicide
  • Men are three times more likely to die by suicide than women
  • Most of those men, their families, friends, and even GPs had no idea they were struggling

In male-dominated industries like security, these risks are four times higher. With over 350,000 SIA-licensed men under 50 working across the UK, many work nights or alone while facing aggression and violence.

For too long, male suicide in our sector has been treated as tragic but inevitable. Fullerton Group refuses to accept that.

Our Approach

We’re tackling this challenge head-on, in partnership with Tough to Talk, a UK charity specialising in reducing male suicide. Together, we are building a practical, scalable, and evidence-based system of support for our people.

This isn’t a tick-box exercise. We’re creating a whole new system of care, designed to scale beyond Fullerton Group so the wider security industry can adopt the model.

Key pillars of the initiative:

  1. Breaking the Silence – Signature Tough Talks
  • Expert-led sessions creating safe spaces for open conversations about mental health
  • Designed to tackle stigma and encourage staff to speak up
  1. Training Tough Talkers
  • Frontline managers are trained to spot early signs of crisis, intervene safely, and provide meaningful support
  • Tailored to the high-pressure, high-stakes environment of security work
  1. Using Data to Save Lives
  • The Tough to Talk app enables anonymous reporting of pressures and interventions
  • Data identifies patterns and hotspots, shaping support and continuously improving the programme
  • Ensures the campaign is intelligent, future-proof, and scalable

Our Vision

No Guard Alone is designed to create a ripple effect across the industry:

  • Guards finish shifts feeling seen and supported
  • Managers intervene confidently, knowing exactly how to help
  • Suicides are prevented by design, not luck
  • The security industry begins prioritising mental wellbeing

Fullerton Group will model openness from the top down, measuring success not just in the number of people trained, but in the lives touched.

David Fullerton,
Joint Chief Executive Officer

I know from lived experience that finding courage to open up is life changing. From this moment forward, at Fullerton Group, no guard should feel like they’re carrying the weight of their struggles alone. This isn’t about looking good; it’s about doing good. We are protecting our people with the same commitment we give to protecting the public.

About Our Partner – Tough to Talk

Tough to Talk is a UK charity dedicated to reducing male suicide by breaking down stigma and creating practical support systems. Their expertise ensures we can reach the men behind the mask – those showing up every day, holding it together on the outside but struggling internally.

Their approach is direct, practical, and relatable, making mental health resources accessible for those who need them most.
